Sean has such a small part in this film it was hardly worth his while, a one minute cameo appearence with Norman Rossington and Kenneth More. Otherwise the film based on events from 6th June 1944, was a mass multimillion dollar affair, with many hollywood stars including John Wayne, Richard Burton, Robert Mitchum and Henry Fonda. However the film took over a year to make and release and by that time Sean was a star and Twentieth Century Fox were kicking themselves.
The film was nominated for many oscars and international awards
Sean played Private Flanagan, "a tough and seasoned veteran soldier whose Irish temperament saw him trough the landing at sword beach"
